Many websites built 3–5 years ago as SPAs (Single Page Applications) operate on the CSR principle. When a user visits the site, they receive a blank white page and a huge bundle of JavaScript code. The phone’s browser has to download this code, unpack it, and execute it just to “draw” the website.

On a powerful laptop via Wi-Fi, this takes milliseconds. On a mid-range smartphone on a 4G network, it can take 5–10 seconds.

What does the client see? A white screen. An endless loading spinner. What do they do? They close the tab and go to a competitor whose site opened instantly.

The Problem of “Heavy” Banners

A designer created a beautiful banner in 4K. A developer placed it on the site “as is”. Now, when a client visits from a phone with a 400-pixel wide screen, they are forced to download an image weighing 5 MB, designed for a huge monitor.
