Task

The project was born as a digital showcase for high-end, hand-crafted leather goods from a Berlin-based atelier. The primary goal was to bridge traditional artisanal leatherworking with modern web aesthetics, providing an immersive, tactile-like experience for enthusiasts of quality and longevity.

Solution

Unlike state-heavy web applications, this project is a content-driven, premium retail experience. Therefore, we returned to Astro 5.0. Leveraging Static Site Generation (SSG) alongside React 19 Islands proved to be the perfect choice. It unlocked fast initial load times—crucial for high-end e-commerce SEO—while keeping smooth micro-interactions, 3D configurators, and hover effects exactly where needed, without shipping a massive React bundle. Content management is handled via type-safe Astro Content Collections.

Technologies

Architecture and Deployment

The project utilizes Bun as its ultra-fast runtime environment. While currently an SSG platform, the architecture is specifically recommended for e-commerce scaling, with future blueprints involving PostgreSQL, Drizzle ORM, Redis, and Auth.js for dynamic order management and global logistics integration.
